How the Lottery works

Current players in the Frome Community Lottery are registered with one of two lottery providers: Weather Lottery or Unity Lottery.

New players will be registered with the Unity Lottery only.

The number of players is currently approximately 200.

A breakdown of proceeds from each Lottery is shown below.

Unity Lottery: 50% of the total lottery proceeds are spent on prizes (18.4%) and on running costs and administration (31.6%). 50% of the stake is returned to local lotteries, such as Frome Community Lottery, for distribution to good causes. Winning numbers are randomly generated, and players have a 1 in 63 chance of winning a prize.

Weather Lottery: 63% of the total lottery proceeds are spent on prizes (15%) and on running costs and administration (48%). 37% of the stake is returned to local lotteries, such as Frome Community Lottery, for distribution to good causes. Players have a 1 in 69 chance of winning a prize. The winnings numbers are from the Fahrenheit temperatures of six European cities.

In addition, Frome Community Lottery spends £20 annually for its Lottery Licence with Mendip District Council, and an average of £85 per annum on promotional material. All the remaining Lottery proceeds are distributed annually to local groups and organisations for community benefit.
